A Vacation Day

I closed my kitchen yesterday and the three of us headed out for the day. Our first stop was the Brown Mansion in Chesterton to view the new exhibit of "Hidden Gems of the Dunes". There was also a tour of the house for Adam who was making his first visit.

Next up was the Brauer Museum of Art at Valparaiso University. We had a leisurely viewing of "In Quest of Beauty" which showcased 19th century America as seen in the art and life of Junius R. Sloan, 1827-1900.

A visit home would not be complete without dinner at Five Star Thai. The owners and the food are favorites of ours.

We started out with green papaya salad.

Next we shared sweet, sour, salty and spicy dishes of pad Thai, lard nar and catfish prepared Thai style. And while we dined we were joined by Tana, the owner, who wanted to catch up with what Adam had been doing. It's like being welcomed into the kitchen of a friend and was just what we needed.

Andrew and I came home happily sated. Adam went off to meet friends for a slice of American pie.
